Google and Search Rankings FAQ

Straight answers to the ranking questions our clients ask most.
Updated September 2026.

SEO (search engine optimisation) is the work of helping your website show up on Google when someone searches for what you do, without paying for ads. The higher your site appears, the more visitors and enquiries it gets. For the full picture, read our SEO guide.

Google has to discover and index a page before it can rank. Google says indexing can take anywhere from several hours to several weeks, and in practice most good content is picked up within about a week. A brand new domain usually sits at the slower end. You can check exactly what Google has indexed with Google Search Console, which is free. If a page is still missing after a few weeks, contact us and we will look into it.

It depends entirely on what you type. Search your business name and a properly built site should be on page one within days of indexing, because nobody else competes for your name. Search a general term like "accountant Sydney" and you are up against businesses that have invested in SEO for years. A new website does not outrank them by existing; that level of ranking is earned through sustained work. Our SEO guide explains the gap, and our referral page covers what closing it professionally involves.

Traffic without enquiries is usually a conversion problem, not a ranking one. Check that every page makes the next step obvious: a phone number that stands out, an enquiry form, a clear "get a quote" button. Then look at trust: recent reviews, real photos, current prices. You have full self-management access to your site, so you can experiment; everything you need is on our Support page. Small changes to calls to action often move enquiries more than another ranking position would.

Yes. We refer clients to Andy at Next Level Strategy, and the enquiry form on [our referral page goes straight to him. We set the referral up because clients kept asking, and because cheap SEO kept burning the ones who found providers on their own. Expect honest advice, including being told if SEO is not the right first spend for your industry.

Plenty, and it is free. Work through 10 SEO jobs you can do yourself: your Google Business Profile, reviews, service pages, real photos and the rest. The results compound, and none of it is wasted if you hire a professional later. Just remember SEO is a product of time and effort; nothing moves overnight.
